2015 Retrospective

Recap of the 5th Edition of the MMFM

From June 1-4th 2015 Florida Filmmakers, members of the Hollywood elite, key players from across the pond, and beyond, in between morning “cafecitos” and evening “mojitos”; cut deals, participated in inter-active conferences, met one on one with local and international filmmakers, listened to and pitched ideas and projects, evaluated scripts, and enjoyed our Miami sunshine and hospitality. Where was all of this going on? At the Biltmore Hotel, epicenter of the 5th Edition of the Miami Media and Film Market. MMFM sponsors, participants and speakers alike, had a productive and enjoyable four-day experience under the umbrella of the MMFM Market and Conference.

MMFM has developed into a deal making, content development, finance/co-prommfm2duction, networking, boutique market. And for the 5th straight year MMFM organizers Patty Arias and Jose Luis Martinez, together with the MMFM Steering Committee Members, have delivered a jammed packed, high powered event that brings together deal makers and filmmakers alike for a four day content development frenzy.

The event is part of CAMACOL’S Hemispheric Congress, an annual international networking and business forum in its 36th year that draws business owners and executives from around the world. The filmmaking component grew out of a vision to intertwine international business and the entertainment industry. The international business sector is obviously global. So is film and content. As such, the Hemispheric Congress and MMFM is a match made in business heaven.

As results are being tallied, MMFM can report that the 5th Edition of MMFM enabled financing for a new blockbuster film; two international co-productions, and a television series. MMFM solidified relationships with China and Hong Kong; brainstormed with producers from the U.K.; interacted with executives from major Los Angeles based studios; rocked out with our 5th Annual Co-Production and Finance Forum; held it’s first “Elevator Pitch Coaching Session”. Additionally, the MMFM Agenda also included its first creative summit, the art of making the deal; enabled a thought provoking session with Miami Movie Mavericks, all this while featuring Great Britain’s contribution to the creative industries.

As part of our international co-production series, it has been an annual rite to feature a country at MMFM. Past honorees have included India, Turkey, China, and Poland. To this effect, MMFM is proud to report that our participants have cemented lucrative deals with country representatives in attendance at MMFM.
